Outlining Your Move to Iceland
To help understand your moving options and requirements, an Allied International specialist will go through a few items with you. These may include:
- When do you have to be in Iceland?
- Do you have a preference of air or by sea to ship your belongings? (may depend on when shipment is needed)
- Will you require packing or custom crating services?
- What is the timeframe you plan on remaining in Iceland?
- Are you moving alone or with family?
- Estimate of the size of your shipment?
There is always some cost when it comes to moving. When moving overseas, it is a major factor to consider and be prepared for. Your initial step will be to contact Allied International to schedule a home survey to receive an estimate to relocate your belongings to Iceland. Depending on your timeframe, you will want to be sure to set this up as early as possible so there is no delay in your shipment.
During a home survey, one of our trained and experienced moving specialists will review all your belongings and determine your shipment’s estimated cubic footage. They will also discuss other services you may need such as packing or crating. Once this is complete you will receive a free quote to relocate your belongings to your new destination.
To receive an accurate quote, contact Allied International to setup an appointment for a home survey. In the end, the cubic footage of your shipment, your chosen method of moving, the services you require, and other factors will determine the cost of your relocation overseas. Having this quote will only help you prepare for the cost of moving overseas.
We offer competitive international moving rates, as well as special discounts for smaller international shipments.
History of Iceland
A small island nation in the North Atlantic Ocean, Iceland is considered to be a Nordic country, despite its closer proximity to the United Kingdom. This is because it spent a long period of time under both Denmark and Norway. Beginning in 874 BC the settlement of Iceland was founded by Norwegian immigrants. In fact, the chieftain of Norway was the first permanent resident of the new land. Iceland officially accepted Norwegian rule in the 13th century, where it remained for close to 600 years. After that, Denmark took ownership of the land in 1814. Iceland gained its independence in 1918 and officially became a Republic in 1944. Until World War II, Iceland relied heavily on the fishing industry as its primary form of income. Following the war, Iceland flourished with great prosperity and is currently relying on finance, biotechnology, and manufacturing to fuel its economy.
Iceland is probably most famous for its volcanic and other geological activities. The center of the island features many mountains, glacier fields, and lava beds, while glacial rivers flow to the coastlines. Due to its flourishing economy and low population, Iceland has some of the least amount of taxes in the world. It also features a universal health care system and almost completely runs on renewable energy.
Many countries have items that are prohibited or restricted from being imported and exported. These items may include food, pets and medications and customs regulations are subject to change at any time. When traveling to Iceland you want to be sure to research all customs regulations. This can be done with your local embassy or the country’s consulate prior to relocating. You can also visit VisaHQ.com, they offer customs regulations for numerous countries.
